RIMECO – back on Family hands. One of Europe’s oldest companies within the industry of trading and recycling
of raw materials for the steel industry has changed owners.
RIMECO has for more than 124 years been one of Europe’s marked leading players within the supply of raw materials for the steel industry. RIMECO was until 2005 owned by the Riggelsen family in Aabenraa, who also founded the company.
From 2005 until today RIMECO was part of the ELG-Haniel Group who in the course of re-focusing their Danish engagement to their core activities, i.e. the trading and processing of raw materials for the stainless steel industry, decided to divest RIMECO’s other activities.
The Riggelsen family was offered to take back these activities and as per. June 30th. 2012 RIMECO again is on Riggelsen hands.
The future ownership will lie with Klaus Peter Riggelsen, whereas Peter Riggelsen, who owned RIMECO when sold to ELG-Haniel Group, will be chairman of the board and be in charge of various strategic tasks.
Klaus Peter Riggelsen says: “It has been seven good years with the ELG Haniel Group – yet we are thrilled to go back to being a smaller stand-alone unit, which will enable us to be fast and flexible in our day-to-day activities without having to consider group polices. In the transaction with ELG-Haniel we have taken over customer contacts, trading platforms etc., and we will service our business associates with the same staff that has been with RIMECO for several years. So it will be business as usual. We will continue to develop our presence in the market and will trade steel scrap, cr-ni alloys, stainless steel scrap and non-ferrous – as always. We are looking forward to servicing the market whole hearted and with full of energy”.
RIMECO will continue to do business from one of Aabenraa’s most famous buildings - the old custom house at Aabenraa’s water front also being under Riggelsen ownership.
