Ferrous metals are mainly composed of iron and have magnetic properties. Steel, an iron alloy containing carbon, is by far the most recycled material in the world.

E1 / HMS 2 - Old thin scrap
Material from demolition work and industry, used and unserviceable goods.
Most of scrap exceeds 1 mm thickness and is less than 3 mm thick
Maximum dimensions: 1.50 x 0.50 x 0.50 m

E2 New thick scrap
Waste material from production processes which is collected in as-new condition. Material from overproduction.
At least 3 mm thick

E5 Steel turnings

Free from turnings from castings and automatic lathes etc.

E46 Incinerator Scrap
Shredded or by similar methods from recycled steel scrap waste incineration

Steel Running’s from (Integrated) Steel Mill production

Max piece weight is about 800 kgs.
Metallic Fe content: at least 92%
Blast furnace steel scrap with high Fe content. Origins from the process by reducing iron ore in a blast furnace.
It is used as a raw material (scrap analogue) for the smelting of steel.

Cast Iron Runnings from Steel Mills

Metallic Fe content: at least 92%
Blast furnace Cast Iron scrap with high Fe content and contains carbon, silicon and manganese. Origins from the process by reducing iron ore in a blast furnace.
It is used as a raw material (scrap analogue) for the smelting of iron and steel for steel production.

Mill Scale
GSV = ”normal” mill scale
SHV = Oxygen granules, small round balls with a bit higher Fe content
Fe 70% | FeO 90%
Seperated in sizes: 2 - 10 cm
Mill scale is composed of iron oxides (total Fe is about 70%) mostly ferric and is black color.
Mill scale is origin from production of plates, sheets or profiles. Usually less than 1 mm (0.039 in) thick and initially adheres to the steel surface and protects it from atmospheric corrosion provided no break occurs in this coating.
